Sally Shrubsall graduated from St. Martin’s College of Art & Design, now using studio space at OPEN Ealing Arts Centre, in West London. Sally has submitted her process-based abstract work, as well as some large-scale underwater photograms.
“The camera free antiquated photographic techniques of my early work were preoccupied by an interest in the archetypal psychology of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell and James Hillman. The exhibited pieces of work are photograms made underwater in large scale tanks using diaphanous dresses where the meaning of the work is implicit in the making of it. I have carried this emphasis on process into my painting working in layers and imposing limitations to allow the materials to work their effects. Each painting therefore becoming a balance between planned and chance events. ”
