URBAN PROPHETS music review by Isabella Wesoly VENUE@ The Common Room, on 9th March 2012
The first of its kind music event at The Common Room in Ealing brought together individual and groups of hip hop artists, performing their own urban theme material. Three sets of artists including EYEZ, Static andCulprit Cash, performed with sentiments associated with the challenges of growing up. Their word flow within the lyrics they rap, marking some of the stark realities of 21st century urban life in London.
Each artist performed with the same sense of determination that allowed them to see beyond any particular issues of their separate pasts. The gift of present however was assuring the audience that the inner visions of the past (however long ago) are channelled into talent. Through their own challenges each singer/rapper turned to refining their own skills and talents in the art of song making.
Organized by A-Rhyme and Drama with the dual intention of creating exposure for the performers and promoting DialAway records, a new label owned by A-Rhyme and co-directed by Drama. They are well wished in their musical quest!
Favourite songs amongst the audience (in order of appearance) were: EYEZ - From a Boy to a Man Static - Many Things have Happened Culprit Cash, featuring Seta; Krome; Fuzzy Barz - Don’t Push Me
