Quest for products and materials to create built environments in planetary 'stewardship & harmony'
'Landfills used to be plagued by waste building materials in the UK, before 're-cycling' was adopted. But there are certain types of wood that can be used for creative and educational projects. For example, plywood, MDF, etc that are removed from spaces under renovation (or left over from new projects) still have good use.
There's an opportunity for schools and community groups to benefit from such waste, plus further opportunities for people (adults can still learn) to either make mural panels with their own choices of design/motif or simply learn about the differences between painting with water based or oil paints. A good sanding makes any wood surface re-treatable, unless it's damp in which case I'm sure there's a product being worked on that treats damp wood, which needs to be tested!
Paint.. thick, lumpy, solid emulsion that's always a problem with skips and certain types of re-cycling that goes on here in the UK. Some community recycle centres don't take paint at all. Give people the right tools, eg sieve/strainer/loosely woven muslin, or carving implements that would make a mark in set emulsion and the ability to be creative with waste can open doors. What's done with waste is down to imagination, the first priority is to reduce and then eliminate it.
The last mural project I directed and co-produced was with the children who live on my street. I was invited to get involved in this for our 'Queen's Silver Jubilee' street party earlier this year. A salvaged piece of MDF became community art! and I hope inspirational for others.
Most of the other projects could be repeated using salvaged wood, but the 'Working with Alzheimer's' project at Homemead was a different process entirely.'

Colour Tones & Tips for tinting stone and thread
Following studies in BA (Hons) in Humanities and Diploma in Vibrational Medicine, Isabella Wesoly (our founder) set up at holstic fayres and on eBay UK, under the name
"Is Harmony"
offering a range of gift type products, for emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
It is said that when harmony exists within our subtle bodies,
the likelihood of disease at the physical level is diminished.
Peace and relaxation is activated by bringing harmony to the senses, e.g.
MUSIC (audial senses),
INCENSE (sense of smell),
CRYSTAL TUMBLESTONES (tactile)
and other ornamental objects
ANGELS (touch and thought) and ESOTERIC BOOKS (sense of thought).
Isabella has taught visual arts to young and old alike, in the past, including mural making.
Her first mural project won 1st Prize in a national competition,
via the Dulux Community Project Awards, in 1986.
She is qualified as follows:
BA (Honours) Humanities; Dip.Iris (Vibrational Medicine) City & Guilds 7307 (Adult & Further Education) BTEC Public Administration Part I Reiki I & II Certificates; Certificate in Spiritual Awareness Certificate in Tarot Reading; Angel Therapy™ Practitioner
She has won awards with www.Poetry.com in 2003 and 2004

This section of art works were produced by our founder using different types of salvaged waste, including left over paints from past projects and plywood off-cuts* from a local building contractor.
Some works were part of a commission (unpaid) for a dance studio**, working with a small group of children; Other works were created in studio space, prior to, during, or after her residency in 2011/2012 at Open Ealing Arts Centre (temporary site, at 113 Uxbridge Road, London W13).
*Assistance was given in cutting the plywood to size, by a benevolent associate.
**The dance studio was based at the temporary site of Open Ealing, in West London.

Our founder, Isabella Wesoly, up-cycles waste to craft art.
We hope that our readers will be inspired, not only in the type of waste that still have good purpose, but the variety of ways they can be utilised, e.g.
Plastic containers are useful for paint process or storage.
Drawer bases from broken drawer units, usually made from hardboard, are perfect as an alternative to canvas or paper.
Glass is a specialist area, and not included in our projects aimed at children. However, the deployment of glass or glazing for creative pursuit has multiple benefits (including the production of art forms, visual media for storytelling, gift items, etc.).
The use of tiny glass seed beads are an innovative way to decorate wood based panels, as well as glazing (we have a specific amount of these reserved for 'special' projects, ideal for creatives who want to progress with innovative ideas). ASK us about these.
Lastly, and not included here is the use of off-cuts of industrial vinyl that is used for cutting letters/number for exhibition, display, etc. A past mural-project, at a residential home for people with Alzheimer's, was enabled via such resources (after being adapted to suit the need). See Making Murals Limited's past project for more information.
For the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Isabella was asked to create a mural with the street. The wood was salvaged, left over paint was used for base coat and finer detail, plus a donation of primer was provided by Wright's hardware store in Northfields Avenue. The mural has since been sealed and is in Isabella's garden awaiting a home in the local community.
