There is a plethora of gemstones on the market these days, many synthetic crystal gemstones are given their names for a cosmetic purpose. This guide will allow you to determine the gemstone shown in photo, plus which are natural or synthetic.
from the top, clockwise:
Amethyst - Natural - Colours vary from darkest purple to almost clear, some may be purple/grey. Chevron Amethyst has bandings of white.
Violet Quartz - Natural/Synthetic - These are natural quartz or clear marble, which has been laboratory tinted. Sometimes bandings of colour are seen within pendants, indicating that they could be tinted agate.
Sodalite - Natural - Indigo blue, to light blue, may have black or white markings. Similar to Lapis Lazuli, which is distinguishable by the metallic flecks that are typical of Lapis Lazuli. Blue quartz, also know as Dumortierite is also very similar to sodalite, except it is a much lighter blue with white and doesn't generally have any black in..
Amazonite - Natural/Synthetic Very similar to some types of Amazonite, but not natural. Many on the market are marble which is tinted. Sometimes you can see where a tint has not absorbed fully into the gemstone.
Jade - Natural/Synthetic - I don't refer to gemstones as 'Jade' unless I am 100% certain it is. This occassion is an exception. This is not Jade, but is tinted marble. There are many gemstone dealers who use words like 'Jade', Amazonite, etc. to refer to the colour. This gemstone will be listed as 'tinted marble'
Rose Quartz - Natural - Now and then a synthetic Rose Quartz may pop up, this one is natural though.
Carnelian Agate - Natural - The banding in these gemstones are typical of an agate. Carnelian is known for its deep orange/red colour, but can also be opaque grey/brown
Lavender Jade - Natural/Synthetic - As Amazonite, plus others this is a tinted marble
MARBLE IS A STONE OF SERENITY so even though colour may be synthetically added, from a vibrational viewpoint the resonance of the gemstone will still be present
Some gemstones start off as white, like the one in the centre and enhance with colour for cosmetic purposes: AMAZONITE, SNOW QUARTZ and TINTED AMAZONITE
The effect of enhancements, colour washes and tints in crystal gemstones can be seen in the examples above of: BLUE GOLDSTONE, CHERRY QUARTZ and TURQUOISE HOWLITE
